You dont have to agree to any treatment you dont want, but if you are in pain the recomended treatment is likely necessary anyway.

I highly recommend Harbourfront Dental at the bottom of Spadina at Queens Quay. I've been going there for years and been very pleased by the service. Ask if you can be seen by Dr Flewelling.

he's a bit random, and it is in the east end of Toronto, so not sure if you want to travel that far, but I was recommended a Dr. Gueli in the Beaches are on Queen Street East. I thought an abcess was about to re-occur and as a visitor with no OHIP or whatever you need, he was very good to me. Did a quick check on the abcess (which it turns out was a false alarm), plus an x-ray and gave me two prescriptions just in case it did flare up. The whole thing cost $15, except he didn't take cards, and I only had $14, so he let me off a buck! What a nice chap. When I told my other half and some other ex-pat friends, they were staggered at how little it cost! Judging by their reaction, I don't want to know what real dentist charges are like!
