Defunct UK Child Trust Funds
#1
We emigrated to Canada in May 2014, and managed to get all of our affairs in order. Well, all except for one really annoying thing: the children's Child Trust Funds. They are currently held with Furness Building Society. I understand that these defunct accounts can be changed into Junior ISAs. However...we cannot apply for the Junior ISAs as we are no longer UK residents. I really want to move the move into Canadian bank accounts. Has anyone else overcome these issues?

My eldest daughter recently turned 18 and she cashed it in in December. She received her cheque a few days ago which has made a nice boost to her uni funds.
I don't believe that there would have been any issues cashing them in earlier and simply depositing the funds into a bank account, or an RESP.

According to the Govt. website, the money can only be withdrawn (cashed out) by the child once they reach the age of 18. The only exception to this is if the child is terminally ill or deceased.
