Well in certain circumstances you can hold multiple passports from the same country. I know airline staff who travel to places like Israel and Cuba are often granted multiple passports so they can hide the entry stamp.

Most Western countries, including the UK, will do this for frequent travellers or those travelling to 'non-compatible' destinations i.e. Israel and the rest of the Middle East.
