Spot on Steve - the holes they leave are the perfect size for a hoof/leg to disappear down. When you're charged with taking care of a horse someone's invested $100k in, gophers' rights come a distant second place. Gassing them is about as humane a death for them as is practicable. Toasting them in the process is purely optional.

Pour lots of water down their holes then as they jump out that when you shoot em.

Yup, commonly known as gophers around here. We were at Horseshoe Canyon last week as well, and there was a small girl with her arm stuck down one of those holes up to her elbow.

I told her: Oh you don't want to be stickin' your arm down there!
she says: I wanna get a gopher!!
I reply: Well be careful the gopher don't get YOU!
