Frighteningly high. Ontario’s numbers have, until recently, always been very good in comparison to other countries. Now they are getting out of control. Hospital doctor friends said before Christmas, they were preparing for a second wave at the end of March. They were spot on, so yes the latest predictions are very worrisome.

The situation in Grey County, slightly north of here, is alarming. Everyone is asked to stay home for 48 hours while the authorities attempt contact tracing of recent cases; that process is difficult because people routinely lie to them.

Global were saying 3000 a day is possible! Yet we haven't heard anything more from Dr Henry except that they were right to close indoor dining. Are we expecting more measures anytime soon? Or are we heading down the same old "please adhere to our guidance" messages.

Maybe with ICU numbers climbing to the highest they have been and hospitalizations hitting records, and Fraser Health having to shuffle patients between facilities as the 3 COVID designated hospitals in Fraser Health are getting too full, we may seem more, but who knows at this point.

On Tuesday is was reported that government cabinet was looking into more restrictions and they would be announced Thursday, which has come and gone so maybe idle threats.

Yes it seems that our PM can only judge other countries like UK rather than sort out his own. I don't think the UK press were too happy with his comments today about them getting a third wave. Some saw it as a deflection of his own woes regards the abysmal vaccine roll out by comparison

Yes I saw that article, talk about not knowing what's going on elsewhere.

Ontario has been exceeding California in new cases the last week or so, 4,000+ today in Ontario with 2,016 in California, although Ontario has less deaths.


Ontario when compared to US states would be 10th worst state for the 7 day rolling average, even Texas with no mask mandate and basically no rules has less cases.

Although to be fair to Texas, 33% of the population has had at least 1 dose. 4

California is up to 49% of the population having received at least 1 dose.

The Pfizer vaccine is readily available on both sides of the border, there's no need to accept an AZ vaccine that is inferior on both efficacy and safety grounds.

Hubby is on his second bout of Covid. No, he has not had the vaccination because he has a bad reaction to any flu vaccines. Same symptoms as the first time. They were able to trace where he got the first one but not so lucky with this second one.

BTW there have already been over 200 back through cases of Covid for people who have been fully vaccination on either Pfizer or Moderna in the US.

Thankfully they decided against a curfew system.. but rumour has these restrictions going forward.. we'll know in about an hour :D

You're already not supposed to travel out of your region though they don't specify what region means.
Also it's stay at home apart from shopping for essentials and exercise close to home

I do wonder with the more easily transmissible variants making up most cases now if fast food places are even possible to safely operate considering how close proximity workers are and the difficulty it is for said workers to maintain distance from one another.

Our neighbour hood has just opened up for 18+ vaccinations, we are in a high risk area. My daughter has been trying all day, but the appointments were all taken. I kept trying and trying, then suddenly one appointment for next Friday became available so I grabbed it for her. Woo bloody Hoo. :thumbsup:

It's official, the border between Quebec and Ontario and Manitoba and Ontario, will be closed as from Monday, apart from for 'work or medical' related purposes. -Checkpoints!!

Further restrictions in place.. from tomorrow
Stay at home order extended to 6 weeks.
Schools closed
No more than 25% capacity in any essential (i.e. groceries / pharmaceutical) stores.. no curbside pickup from any non-essential stores (non essential stores online delivery only).
10 people allowed at weddings / funerals / church services etc., as from Monday (indoors or out)
Recreational Facilities and Playgrounds closed
Anyone found outside or in their homes / gardens with anyone not of their household (plus 1 person - for those that live alone) are able to be fined.. police given extended powers to stop / fine.. can ask where you live, who you are with, where you are going.. why aren't you at home etc..

Manufacturing apart from essential supplies - closed down.. construction apart from essential building, closed down..

425 people in hospital, including 127 in intensive care. 1,005 new cases and 6 deaths.

A record high 10,081 active cases.

Hospitalizations up 28% from last Friday with number in ICU up 25% in the same time period.

People can enjoy the outdoors but need to do so safely in small, consistent groups.

And yet another rather luke warm statement. No mention of stricter rules just the same old message, "be careful, stay local, small groups" When are they going to realize people will just carry on as they were because, well, it's technically not illegal. I don't need to go to Osoyoos for a day trip or Alberta for a road trip but if i did I'm not breaking any laws and so it continues. The roads here at the moment are busy like normal, nobody is staying home or refraining from travelling so it seems.

Exactly, i am not a fan of closures or masks or restrictions on my life but as you say it has now got to a point where you assume they should be doing something a tad more drastic because they keep showing us modelling data of scary figures but fail to stamp down on it.

This happened before when they were doing the over 75's and it took about 10 days to get more. It's been closed for the last 2 days. The fact that it was busy before is encouraging, and the other drive-throughs in the province appear to be operating normally.
When a bunch of kids from different towns get together for a party, then take the virus and variants home with them, it spreads like wildfire:

Ontario's newest regulations for 'stay at home orders' specify that only people within the same household can be outside (or inside) together - with the exclusive addition of 1 person (if they are single).. you can be stopped at any time by a police or bylaw officer, required to give the reason why you are outside of the home.. where you live, where you are going.. and who is with you..

I read that Ford has backtracked on closing playgrounds; probably a good idea.
edit; I was in error before when I said the Regina drive-through was closed for the last 2 days, they just weren't posting the wait times so it looked like they were closed. They didn't run out until yesterday evening.

Now they're telling us the Regina drive through is going to be closed for 2 weeks, so it will be similar to the first time they ran out of Phizer.

Both good news and bad news I guess, the good news being demand seems strong which implies people are willing to get vaccinated but running out of supply isn't good news.

Good news is cases are trending downward a bit in BC.

Bad news 8 deaths over the weekend including a child, 2 years old with pre-existing health concerns.

Good news is Astra Zeneca vaccine will be opened to 40, but will be used to target specific communities with the highest concern.

Travel restrictions begin on Friday with police setting up random road blocks similiar to DUI check points.

Effective Friday no travel outside your health region will be permitted. (kind of makes no sense considering the Lower Mainland is comprised of 2 health regions Vancouver Coastal and Fraser Health, but someone in Burnaby can travel as far out as Boston Bar apparently but going from Vancouver to Burnaby or New West isn't permitted)

BC Ferries will be stopping bookings for anyone with RVs or campers.

They will put up signs at the Alberta border reminding people not to travel to BC for non-essential reasons.

It's good to put signs up, even if it's old news. Having a cop on the Trans Canada and another on the #3 to scare tourists off might be better, but expensive. I'd target them; relay video of campers rolling in to units on the BC side then check them out and ticket the bejeesus out of anyone that shouldn't be there. The country's most lucrative stop check.

I registered with shoppers drug mart, but no appointments available at the moment, other pharmacies still have outdated information that its 55+ maybe once everything is updated will see, but at least I am registered at Shoppers and chose any location to widen my chances.

True that. When the law put a fence around Grace Life Church near Edmonton 2 weeks ago the parishioners weren't happy, but then last week protesters from all over Alberta converged on it. A restriction to keep them in their own health districts would have made them liable. A neighbour said none of the protesters were locals.
