Default Contact Lenses

Does anyone order their contact lenses via the internet?

If so can you give me any info?

Ta!

I order from http://www.visiondirect.com/ in the US - nothing to do with the UK company of the same name.

You don't need to provide them with a prescription, but obviously you should be in possession of one. I tried to swap my address to a Michigan one and they insisted on sight of a prescription for that, must be okay to dispense to non-US customers without though.

There are always codes and coupons for free delivery or 10% off, just google for them. Prices are in US dollars.

I've never paid tax or duty on any shipment and they always declare the full value. I paid VAT on almost every single batch when they sent them to me in the UK.

I'd be interested if anyone else has recommendations - I haven't shopped around in ages, been happy with these, but if it's cheaper elsewhere I'm listening

I've got one pair of my dailies left in the box - being saved for ski-ing next weekend

I might be answering my own question here, but would it be foolish to switch to, for example, Acuvue dailies, on an internet order - without being checked or fitted by an optician?! My current lenses are UK Specsavers own brand - no problems with them, the prescription is straightforward. Could I order one box (both eyes are the same) to try them out or are you supposed to place a minimum order?

I always use : http://www.coastalcontacts.com/homepage.html

I ordered from the company while living in the UK because they were a lot cheaper. Emigrating to Canada, I changed my account details and now pay in dollars. Very reliable and suprisingly quick delivery.

I think the legal blurb with the people I order from is that you must have been prescribed that already, you're only getting a refill. But obviously without seeing a prescription, they have no way of checking that if you're not in the US.

I just looked at UK Specsavers website and their own brand dailies are either made by CibaVision or Bausch& Lomb - http://tinyurl.com/tgxyz - can you see which ones you've got from the packet? You could then order that same brand from the internet.

Obviously you need your eyes checked when wearing contact lenses and an internet place can't do that for you...

I tried to order my sons lenses online last year but I found that each site required different combinations of measurements and not all of them were detailed on his prescription. He gets Bausch & Lomb from Boots optitians in the UK at the moment.

Has anyone else had this problem and how do you get around it?

Do you mean the base curve? They wanted to know "BC" or "BCR", something like that? That also wasn't on my prescription but I just took the info from the packet that had been properly prescribed for me, and used that on my repeat internet orders. Mine is sth like 8.6 or 8.10 if that narrows down that we're talking about the same thing - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Base_curve_radius

Where's OceanMDX when you actually want him, wasn't he an optometrist?

Thanks everyone. I am getting a sight check next week but the place I go is super expensive ($260 for 6 months or there abouts). I got a quote from Costco and they said $36 per box but I have to have a fitting and stuff and then go back for a check a week or so later and as I've been wearing the things for more years than I care to remember and I want the same as I've had before I just wanted to avoid that hassle and my goggles need updating too as I can't see through them anymore So I'll see how it goes - of course I've left it to my last week of my last pair to think about all this

I just got some from www.ClearlyContacts.ca

I thought they were good value, and though there was some mention about faxing my prescription on my confirmation of order email, I decided to wait until after Christmas, ..... and then, just a couple of days later, the lenses turned up anyway!
