Complete Over Commercialisation
 

Yes I know I am in North America and yes I know it is bad in the UK too but the complete hijacking of anything resembling a holiday or 'special day' here in Canada is obscene.

The pictures I have seen of kids with mountains of actual wrapped easter gifts and buckets full of candy and chocolate is ridiculous. I thought the Valentines Day (everyone at school gets a card and possibly a small gift) trick was bad enough but enough is enough.

Full Turkey Roasts and all the trimmings.... why? Maybe my thinly veiled atheism has been tweeked today but oh dear I feel like the police sergeant in The Wicker Man :confused:

I actually think that Easter is more commercial back in the UK. I haven't been able to find a decent Easter Egg in any of the supermarkets here. Back in the UK they have aisles full of them!

A paltry Easter Egg doesn't cut it anymore here I am talking about piles of gifts larger than at Christmas........ bicycles, dolls, computer games, cellphones...... chocolate eggs are just an add on .... almost a nod to the Easters of the past....

I don't know anyone who gets anything other than chocolate for Easter :blink:

+1. I've lived here for 32 years and have never heard of non-chocolate Easter presents. It's been decades since we even bothered with that.

More of a battering, a good kicking. Those freaky lawn ornaments do my head in. An inflatable for every occasion. Still you never see inflatable crucifixes being sold at Crappy Tire do you?

For a place that bangs on about church and praying all the time there isn't much Christianity at Easter time round here.

But isn't that because it's chocolate bunnies (and other choccy things) that are the norm here rather than eggs?

Plenty of mini eggs but the bigger stuff is just different things and as plentiful as eggs in the UK.

Hmmm...I bought the kids Frozen for a present rather than too much chocolate! Minimal chocolate for them anyway :)

No it's all the decorations that bug me. Easter bunnies and Easter egg hunts I was told are German origin but my half German husband never did any. When did Easer Egg hunts become popular in Britain? We just painted boiled eggs, and bashed a few.
