City Car

Re: City Car
Well I was considering a mini, but the over priced-ness (is that a word) just made me shudder, and as much as I would like one I can't bear to be ripped off for the badge...
Mazda 3 is looking like it is out. Found a Yaris RS..quite pokey little thing. Problem is I like big wheels and they are tiny on all these little cars...

Re: City Car
We tried a bunch of smaller cars and ended up with a Civic because nothing could convincingly beat it; I'd certainly take a close look at the Fiesta if I was buying today though, it seems to have had some pretty good writeups and the '77 Fiesta I owned in the UK for a while was quite entertaining (though not always in a good way ).

Re: City Car
I seem to recall the Yaris having the worst braking numbers for any small car on the market?

Yep my friends in the UK have a civic, and OH likes them to, so will have a look at those too.
My first car was a fiesta, two tone dark brown and beige...lovely! Had an escort sport engine and went like stink, even if it was held together with masking tape!

Re: City Car
I had one as a loaner last winter. Absolutely terrifying. The staff at the rental agency said I had to have it because they got first choice and wouldn't drive it. After a tantrum, and being genuinely scared, they upgraded me to a Camry ("upgrade to a Camry" is a weird concept but nevermind). The Camry was a reasonable if dull way to get around.
Have you considered a Morris Minor Traveller with wood trim?

Re: City Car
The Fiesta would be worth a serious look IMHO as it is at least a nifty euro model not NA bland. Novocastrian will doubtless weigh in on the Hyundai Elantra touring being the ultimate ride, but he wears tweed and has a beard. If you want something roomy and funky consider the Kia Soul. The Mrs drives one and its a nice little motor.

Re: City Car
i just sold my Audi. I will never buy german again. I loved it but we always fell out when I got the bill for service and repairs
Mazada 3 hatchback would be a good nip around car. You cant go wrong with Honda and American cars have gotten a lot better over the years and way cheaper to service and maintain.
