Re: The Christmas music thread
The trouble with Christmas music from my perspective is, as a now non-believer, it's some of the greatest music ever written. Beautiful melodies and wonderful lyrics. After 20+ years as a churchgoer it's ingrained in my mind/memory and it seems I automatically sing/think along. Then I think of my non-believer status and feel like a hypocrite.

And, one enjoy devotional music from other cultures without even knowing it's devotional, the music stands, or falls, on its own merits.

Re: The Christmas music thread
Well I see Christmas as a religious occasion so IMO anything promoting the season has a religious connotation. I still enjoy much of the music though. But, I'm always pleased when it's over although that means lots of rubbish music being played.

Ah, well there's the mistake then.
Christmas is when kids get excited about the toys and games they're hoping to get; parents enjoy their kids' excitement; Christmas Dinner, pud and cake and Turkey sandwiches for days to follow; Work colleagues get to let their hair down and you hope it's not you that everyone talks about after the office party; Telly being better than it usually is (in the UK anyway) with a big film on Christmas night and BBC2 showing a season of movies by a director/actor or similar theme and you never get tired of The Great Escape or Where Eagles Dare or The Marx Brothers....
That's how I remember it anyway.
