Re: Chips...battered fish, battered sausage etc
I googled to make sure I wasn't misremembering. Apparently they have several names, including scrumps and scraps
and there's even a BE thread from 2009
I used to scrump for apples too.

Why would a newspaper be printed for food use? While some papers are clearly not printed for news purposes, use at the other end would be more appropriate.
They were free in my day. In small doses they were lovely but why would you pay for a quantity that made you feel sick?

Not into seafood, so was either battered sausage, saveloy, or cornish pasty, plus of course chips.
There are a few chippies near me, which I've never ventured into, but may have to now.
I *might* have found somewhere in Buffalo that does battered sausage!

I might have to check it out at the weekend.

I don't think battered fish counts as seafood really.
I know that sounds daft, but that beefburger that oddly becomes a hamburger when in a bun tastes completely different as a hamburger to when it's coated in batter and fried.
Fish is the same I think. I have a friend that 'loathes' fish but happily eats it battered from the chip shop because "it's not fish"

I have a 7 year old daughter that will happily consume deep fried onion rings - unless one splits open and she sees the onion - but has an utter meltdown if she sees an onion in any other meal.

Some - heathens - would say anything battered and deep fried isn't food. Meh, whatever.
I did used to eat fish cakes and stuff, but just don't like the taste. I have tried it, but still, nope. I got seriously funny looks in Maine last year when I said I didn't eat lobster

If it's fish and chips (of which there is a plentiful supply of in this part of the world) and beer you want then local scuttlebutt is that you can't go wrong with the "Duke". The Duke of Duckworth | Contact Us

It's the end of the world as I know it... Nothing like the combination of black printer's ink and cod fresh from the vat.

I am that way. Onion rings are fine but onions on anything else and I take the onions off. As a kid it would result in a melt down however if onions or pickles touched my food.
But for deep fried fish, still cant eat it.
