Chips...battered fish, battered sausage etc

This makes me want to go back

Just look at those chips. There are even a few 'scrumps' mixed in. <Sigh>

Hmmmm.. Where is the newspaper? You can't have good chips without newspaper. Must be something in the ink.

"Makes me want to puke" maybe more appropriate ? Looks ok to me- not the best, not the worst- maybe you have been here too long N20

This is best fish and chips that I've tasted, great for the local chippy when we lived in Fife near Anstruther

When I want fish and chips, I get the mince beef and onion pie and chips. Yum yum.

Assuming there aren't some stolen apples hidden under those chips, I think you mean 'scraps'

We had fish and chips tonight and it was, just, OK.

Never a sausage in batter, pie etc. served at our local one.:(

How can they call themselves a proper fish and chip shop if they don't do saveloys, pies and curry sauce?

I googled to make sure I wasn't misremembering. Apparently they have several names, including scrumps and scraps
and there's even a BE thread from 2009

I used to scrump for apples too.

Looks good.

Sadly the one near us will supply you with this monstrosity which they even have the nerve to call English style (with batter like that )

except that the chips won't look that "good" and will more than likely look as if they've been fried 3 or 4 times, reheated and then fried again.

You have never tasted good fish and chips then.

Even the ones I had in Nova Scotia (better seafood then Ontario ;), which were good but were still not as good as what I was used to eating growing up.

Oh well less then two weeks to wait until I get the real deal again :britflag:

That fish 'n chip place in False Creek isn't bad, neither is the place in Steveston.

I heard somewhere you could still get fish 'n chips wrapped in newspaper in Newfoundland - a thing you can no longer do in Britain.

Steveston fish and chips were awful when I went.

I think I went to the restaurant on the water but I can't remember it's name. Never again though
