Hi all,
Has anybody got any ideas for cheap places to stay in August for 5 people (3 adults,2 kids)?
We would like to stay for 2/3 nights in Edmonton, 1 night in Jasper, Banff and Calgary. We would like to show our girls and mum-in-law 'The Rockies'...
Any help or advice woud be great....
Thank you.....

I can highly recommend Patricia Lake bungalow in Jasper: Just outside the town site, located right by the lake, very peaceful, friendly and reasonably priced as I recall - book early though as it's very popular.

We have stopped at the Bow View Lodge in Banff 3 times, it is reasonable, breakfast can be bought in their sister lodge across the car park. We have had river view rooms it is quiet and pleasant.

Outside Jasper we stayed in Pocahontas cabins, they were quite okay and the breakfast was provided.

Cheap and Jasper/Banff don't really go together, you'll be looking at least $100 per night per room IMO.
My rellies coming have chosen to stay at a mega expensive place - $491 for two nights, no brekkie - not happy, I think they think it's going to be the bees knees. It better be!

I live near(ish) to Jasper. My advice would be that even though it's that bit less popular of a destination than Banff, do not, under any circumstances, leave an August booking until the last minute unless you're happy with the idea of staying a long way outside the townsite. We used to run a B&B about 100km from Jasper itself (Mt. Robson - far nicer area
) and we were always fully booked up for July and August...mainly with people who had wanted to visit Jasper and so now had to do an hour's drive each way because they'd not booked ahead, LOL!

Just re-read your post. Why 2-3 nights in Edmonton, and only one in Jasper and Banff??
