Professor Richard Hoggart died today. He was only 95, but I suppose he had a good innings. He may not have been a celebrity in the popular sense, but to me he was extremely important and without exception, a star. He will be missed.

) force fed us his book; not so much for content but HOW to write a book. It's been on my bookshelf ever since. Thanks for flagging his death Oink - I would have missed it and the opportunity to saunter down memory lane with my morning coffee.

I thought Bob Hoskins was great - the English Gene Hackman. When he was diagnosed with Parkinson's he tweeted that he was giving up his acting career because he didn't think he could give the performance his audience deserved.
