That's what we do. Everything (well, just about everything) goes on my credit card which gets paid off at the end of every month. Over the years I've had enough rewards for free flights, free hotel rooms, coupons for groceries, discounts at stores, etc. One points credit card used wisely more than pays for its annual fees.

living in the today Canada is it possible, just like it was back in the 40's & 50's to use cash only or a pre-paid visa/MC cash card (not a bank debit card or credit card) for most everything for all regular bills, personal expenses, all shopping needs, even buying household items, car, groceries?

Money under the mattress or in the cookie jar - not in a bank account

If not, why not or which items can you not use cash for & why?

I've just read this original post on the thread, and it's nonsense.

Did you really use a pre-paid visa/MC cash card for regular bills in the 1940s & 50s?

I think bank accounts and cheques had also been invented.

Remember those Natwest piggy banks where you got a new one if you took it to the bank with your pocket money in it? My nan was always raiding mine for her fag money. :(

No.

We lived in a miserable hovel in a village 4 miles west of Newcastle.

There weren't any banks.

A couple of quid of a Friday in your brown paper pay-packet and off to the boozer.

I remember Luncheon Vouchers. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meal_voucher

The old man used to get them as a benefit with work. Not sure they are so common now.

We used to go to Garfunkels with them.

Only in very vivid dreams.

Neither network even existed then let alone pre paid cards

I remember getting them back in the 80s and seem to vaguely recall some argy bargy over the tax treatment of them. My local bar accepted them at lunch time so I didn't really care about the tax aspect, free beer is free beer.
