Canadian Equivalent Qualifications

Will a job-seeker with a British university degree, post graduate diploma in software engineering and 10 years work experience need do apply for accreditation?

YES: IQAS and any other professional accreditation you can get. Some on this forum talk about 'equivalencies' but when you're here you will find the qualifications accepted must be from Canadian institutions and proof of any 'equivalency' lies with you, hence IQAS. Also most employers here are hung up on the grade 12 diploma.

A degree certificate and transcript is all I have ever been asked for.

Vocational qualifications are a different matter altogether. If your degree is part of a vocational qualification (law and medicine spring to mind) then they will need to be evaluated. If it is just to prove you are a graduate then they don't.

Odd isn't it but that's what they ask to see - the qualifications I gained at age 16 and 18 in the UK. WHY?

Simply as that is the only way they can guarantee you went and completed high school. To them this is a benchmark for a certain level of literacy and competency. Many NA employers don't understand or care about European education so need it translated in terms they can comprehend.

That's just completely wrong. A degree from a UK uni + experience is fine for employers; unless, as JonboyE says, you are in one of the protected professions (doctor, lawyer, teacher, or whatever)
