Uh huh.

UPS delivered a laptop the other day. Even though I was home and well within earshot of a bell ring or door knock, we found a card in the mailbox (where I had looked 2 or 3 times during the morning for ordinary mail) saying the parcel had been left on our deck. Sure enough, that's where it was.

The courier had walked down the drive between us and next door, reached over the deck rail and released it (dropped) into a chair.

Did the sender require an adult signature? If not then the issue is with the sender not UPS. They are not supposed to leave anything requiring an adult signature.

Surely they shouldn't be leaving anything out in the open like that even if a signature isn't needed.

Canada Post often leave parcels outside our front door if I happen not to be in ........... if it's small enough they fit it between the screen door and the front door, and try to fit it there so it holds the screen door open if it's larger!

Will you be changing your British spelling and word use when you move? ;)

Re: Canada Post Labor issues

No need to change it.

Lots of Canadians spell the American way already out west here.

I'm not that worried.

One thing I've come to associate with many canadians is their inability to do what they say they will.

Promise to strike?... Naahhhhh won't happen.

Well you seem right so far, they did push back any job action for another 24 hours.

That's interesting. A common aspect in the CBC news reports I hear is the use of the word 'strike' when what they appear to mean is not an actual stoppage but an overtime ban in one area and having them in other areas.

Is that what you mean by 'job action', something that's not actually a withdrawal of labour?

In my time we'd have an overtime ban and/or 'work to rule' before an actual stoppage. All under the umbrella of Industrial action. So is that what you mean by job action?

I always quite liked the work to rule part because it highlighted just how much goodwill from staff was needed in order to do the work under normal circumstances.

Yes, the withdrawal of their services for OT is what I meant by job action.

When I was union at the airline our union was so weak and so desperate just to get a contract the company got a no strike clause put in, so striking was never an option, although its near impossible to strike in the US as an airline employee so not likely to ever happen to begin with...lol And even if a strike does happen, unless pilots, your likely just to be outsourced. Strikes in the US just dont work unless your skilled labor and difficult to replace or outsource.

They reached a tentative agreement, voluntarily it seems.

No other details at this time.

Good. I avoid UPS since they damaged my property and refused to pay for it.

Tip: You can guarantee that amazon will deliver Canada Post by sticking "BOX 1" at the end of the first line of your address.

Good to know.

I use the DPO / Direct to Post office option ("Amazon Pick Up Point") because that way no one has to be home to accept my package, it is guaranteed to go by Canada Post, and I work at the Shoppers that houses the post office in question so its very convenient for me to pick up the packages whenever.
