Canada Post Labor issues
Assuming no settlement is reached, looks like CP union will issue a 72 hour strike notice tomorrow (Thursday).
May want to hold off mailing anything at this point unless it can arrive by Friday. If they do strike, the one bill be cannot pay online is gonna cost a small fortune using Fedex, maybe there is will be a last minute deal to avoid a strike, but i am not sure either side will budge on the retirement/pension issue. I'm not that worried.
One thing I've come to associate with many canadians is their inability to do what they say they will. Promise to strike?... Naahhhhh won't happen. |

I discovered how easy that was last month ................ I just do not want to do online paying and transfers. |

Seems to me whenever postal workers either actually strike or threaten strike action, companies, mail order firms etc, who use Canada Post, bale out and find alternatives. Some don't come back to Canada Post. This attrition continues it seems, postal workers being seen by many as turkeys volunteering for an early Xmas, long term. Some pundits are of the opinion that but for them delivering mail shots, flyers etc, not forgetting support from the Feds, Canada Post would have died years ago along with postal workers jobs.
One solution would be binding arbitration on both side of the dispute however it seems Canada Post's largest union has rejected a proposal from the federal labour minister to undergo binding arbitration. My way or the highway? If their not careful many postal workers could find themselves on it! |

I order from a aquarium supply place often, and they seem to have gotten a good deal with UPS, they now give you a choice and shipping with UPS is cheaper and faster. Canada Post takes 2 days, and UPS takes 1. So cheaper and faster, cant best that.
I don't care for CP for parcels since they refuse to deliver them and I don't like having to pick them up when a parcel delivery company should be delivering, but they are useful for letter mail. And until every company im Canada and everything in Canada is 100% electronic, there is still a need for affordable letter mail option.

Ottawa to name mediator for Canada Post dispute as strike mandate set to expire - Business - CBC News The federal government is urging Canada Post and its biggest union to work with a special mediator to hammer out a deal as the union's strike mandate is set to expire later Thursday. Labour Minister MaryAnn Mihychuk says she proposed to both sides on Wednesday evening that Ottawa name a special mediator to help in the matter, adding that she plans to "do so expeditiously." "I expect both parties to work with this special mediator to come to a resolution and avoid a work stoppage," she said. "I continue to closely monitor the situation." |

Did the sender require an adult signature? If not then the issue is with the sender not UPS. They are not supposed to leave anything requiring an adult signature.

72 hour notice issued. Union say's CP refused to work with a special mediator, company says that isn't true. Union seems to be stopping short of a full blown strike though, wonder if CP will issue a 72 hour notice of lock out, or if they will just operate with labor disruptions?
