I was reading about this elsewhere...

Is that the conference that discusses "racism", but the only motion on the table is anti israel, and there seems to be no racism to be discussed, other than anti islamic sentiment?

Cant say I blame them for not wanting to attend and legitimising this nonsense, it seems a meeting with an agenda of its own to me....

Its the absence of other discussion that I find somewhat odd at a UN mandated conference....

As dbd points out, the whole notion and implementation of the state of Isreal is inherently racist, but that should not be the sole focus of a conference of this nature.

What was your point in posting this anyway...you seem to have elected to just post the link.

last I looked, Islam was a religion not a race. Moslems come in all shapes and sizes, racially speaking.

You seem to be trying to do the same thing for Islam that many pro-Israel aplogists do for that nation - making a link, where none exists, between anti-Israel and anti-Semitic sentiment.

For example: I think a that a lot of Israeli politics, particularly the political treatment of Palestine, are wholly indefensible, but that has no bearing on my feelings towards the Jewish faith. In the same way, I think that some of the gesture politics that Ahmadinejad indulges in are equally irresponsible and inflammatory, but that doesn't make me anti-Islamic.

hmm, seems to me like the US, as usual, wants its cake. how can obama say he wants to reengage these 'rogue' states, and then withdraw from UN conferences when surely this would be the best time to do it.

i'm sure it was blindingly obvious beforehand what was going to happen so they withdrew, i would have thought it more astute to let iran have their say, and then counter it.

Where does it say that, iain? A cursory google failed to confirm (or deny) your assertion.
