We have no cable, but we do have 2 teens that are pretty good at finding anything that my have eluded their less technical parents

Hang on...yes you can. We have it upstairs.
When we took a third one, for upstairs, it came with more features so we kept it with the main TV downstairs and had the old one move upstairs.
It shows what's playing while you get a list of the other numbers but it must still be fairly basic.

When I first came over here I was in Toronto and had the full on Rogers TV package, was SD only, but pretty much all the non speciality channels, something stupid like 80 - 100 per month.
When I move I was out of Rogers service area so switched to Cogeco, just had basic service at first, then decided to add HD into the mix too. Think it was around 50 - 60 a month.
At the start of the year I dumped cable. I wasn't watching that much on TV, and certainly not content that I couldn't get by other means if I wanted. The replacement was to switch to using Netflix and unblock-us.
So far I have been very happy with what I'm getting. perhaps not the latest episodes of shows I might like to watch, but at the same time, if I *really* want to watch a particular show, then I'm sure I can find it somewhere.

Example. Utopia. The second series is on C4 at 10.00pm on Tuesday nights.
It was available for download last night and I could have watched it at the same 10.00pm (4 hours behind) here as in the UK. Perhaps even earlier. Definitely earlier in the rest of Canada.
It's not really a delay is it.

Installed custom software on the router this weekend, and can verify that I can now use Chromecast to watch stuff from US Netflix and UK iPlayer. Surprisingly easy, actually!
