Default Canada goes digital Sept. 1

Tomorrow is D-Day - D as in digital - for those individuals who still receive TV signals over the air, as opposed to cable or satellite.

The conversion to digital from analog signals takes place across Canada on Thursday, meaning that analog signals will no longer be broadcast. (Among those stations not changing over immediately are CBC and some CTV affiliates in Saskatchewan, which received an extension for analog signals from the CRTC.)

I have gained CTV 2, Global HD, TVO HD, City TV HD with my antenna

Bully for you. I assume you've already discovered that there's shit-all worth watching on any of those channels?

In Regina we lost Global and (for me anyway) CTV weeks ago and CBC went away right on schedule. Though we met the extension criteria of less than 300k pop. we're a capital city so they had no choice. Hillbilly tv was fine if you could handle breaking away and doing something real if icedancing or golf or Lunar Jim were the only choices. Cable means big bucks every month and friends tell me there are lots of times there's still nothing worth watching on 60 channels. $100 converter box still gets you 3 local and French and other than a giggle at Les Tudors (thanks to Novo) the French isn't much use to me. There must be a way to scam a free converter box somewhere.

Canada goes digital... woopee!

An improvement in Signal quality is definitely warranted, shame it can’t come with a content quality improvement

We took our digital converter box and fancy new aerial back - looks like the digital signal is too weak here for anything other than frozen frames on Global We were better off with analogue!
