Default Canada Day in Canada

Do you do anything for it? If so, what does it entail? Is it the default back garden bbq or are there other things you are meant to do. Americans set off fireworks but here, apart from waving a little flags around or getting your kids face painted, is it an excuse to get bladdered?

It's when quandaries like this that crop-up it's handy to have some cradles about the place.

Sometimes its a blessing being married to one Not so much getting bladdered for us. We are off to the park with the kids, theres all sorts of stuff put on, games, face painting, hot diggety dogs, car shows, bands, that sort of stuff. Its lots of fun. After lunch the kids will nap so we can go to the fireworks in the evening. There will be the traditional bank holiday meat burning to be done too. Its just a fun family day. I hope the weather cooperates.

Allegedly it's not going to co-operate here. Typical.

I'd completely forgotten about Canada day until yesterday. It was a very pleasant surprise to find out I was going to get the day off. Woohoo... or something.

I found this on wikipedia.

. . . professor of International Relations at the University of Oxford, Jennifer Welsh said of this: "Canada Day, like the country, is endlessly decentralized. There doesn't seem to be a central recipe for how to celebrate it — chalk it up to the nature of the federation."

So I guess we can make it up as we go along.

I'm going to celebrate with a lie-in and then try to finish Red Dead Redemption on PS3.

I see Quebec had their national day last week so do they opt out of this one?

Cool. A proper, BC-style celebration could go like this:

Put marijuana cutting into ground the year before on canada day.

Grow plant.

On Canada day (or however long before it needs to dry) smoke it.

Order sushi.

Done.

Huge fireworks display in the village

A parade, some bands in the bandstand, some silly dancing. Some food. We are heading to Campbellford to see Elvis
