Just spent 15 minutes of my life, filling in an on-line form to re-direct my mail.
They finish off with 4 authenticating questions based on my credit history and ask about loans etc I have never had!!!!!
The same when the wife tried, same questions even.
Then not let you do it... go to a counter ..
aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaghhhhhh
If they don't want to do this online, why bother with the option.
No I never had a student bloody loan in 2008, no I never had a car loan in 2009... ?????? bloody pathetic.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm rant over.

Oh your fun has just begun. I had the same problem with their online system, mysterious loans and credit history which does not exist. I didn't mind that so much, what I minded was the 2 hour round trip to collect the letters which, for reasons best known to Canada Post, did not get re-directed. Mostly, it was letters from the CRA, GST refunds and the like. I'm beginning to think it is a conspiracy.

Jeepers, not good news...
Edmonton to Saskatoon is 5 1/2 hours each way

The fact that you know you didn't have those loans is the point.
They are just trying to id you.
I'm with I2C - they will just balls it up anyway. I had a months worth of mail sat in a mailbox in NS when we first moved over. Don't trust em!
I'm just about to embark on a double re-direct. Change the NS to ON existing re-direct to a new address, and start a new re-direct from old ON address to new one. If they manage that I will eat my shoes

It was Canada Post's redirect questions (several moves ago) that lead me to get a copy of my credit report. The data's rubbish, loans I never had listed as current, loans I do have not listed, every car I ever leased listed as current, all a bit random. Yonks ago I had a contract that involved data mining for one of the credit bureaux, I knew then that the data wasn't very accurate but I'm a bit surprised at how bad mine is. I wouldn't trust a credit bureau database to establish identity as individuals can't reasonably be expected to know details of loans and bank accounts they don't have.
I think Canada Post are wasting their time with this system and that one should go into a branch where no id is required.

Twice a year I have "discussions" with Canada Post about mail redirection to the US. Over the past seven years they have screwed it up four times !
In addition they have the gall to charge me $165 for this.
They seem to be incapable of getting it right.
The only good part is that I have been given a 50% discount each time they mess up.
Fortunately I have the name and personal phone number of the general manager of the local sorting office. Whenever I call him it's "O M G what now".
I go to my local Postal Outlet to do the deed so don't know about the loan thing. Seems like overkill to me though.
On the other hand the USPS does the same thing for free ! They even redirect parcels to me here in Nova Scotia for up to six months. Very handy if I'm dealing with folks who won't ship out of the US !

Perhaps I shouldn't complain about the odd inexplicable letter that made it to Toronto and no further. Still a pain in the ass and I am lucky that I am still in touch with the super at the Toronto address.
I suppose the moral of the tale is that it will work ok most of the time, probably.

Canada Post are a bunch of dimlos. I knew this lazy fat git who had borderline schizophrenia, that got a job as a supervisor, with no experience. He can barely tie his shoelaces but he's still there after three years.

I have lived in Canada for many years and can confirm that Canada Post is the pits. It appears to be staffed by ill-mannered, illiterate morons. On numerous occasions, they have delivered my mail to someone else. Misdeliveries include cheques, utilities bills, and other useful information for identity thieves. When I complain, I am told they are doing their best, and they do not seem to be aware that this isn't good enough. After I've I trudged through the snow to collect parcels I've been told are awaiting pick up, no-one can find the things. Then when I've have gone home empty-handed,they phone to tell me they've managed to locate my parcel after all.
I have given up trying to suggest that the local numpties all need brain transplants, and have opened a file at the Ombudsman for Canada Post. Maybe I'll get some action if I call in another few hundred complaints and keep telling them that I will sue if my identity is stolen because of my mail being shoved in somebody else's box.

yes agree its rubbish, we were informed it was no longer "safe" to deliver to our mailbox so we now have to drive 2 kms to get our mail, on the other hand either through crap administration or friendly staff we still get mail delivered that was on re direct, that expired a year ago

I had my first run-in with Canada Post one December in the early 2000s. I had used up all my immigrant cash by that time, was unemployed and relied on my UK credit card and cash withdrawals from Barclays.
We went out for dinner. My card was rejected, which was odd because I didn't owe anything. The missus paid (she was banking electronically by that time). I thought no more of it.
A few days later, I got a snotty call from the Hydro people, asking why the bill hadn't been paid. I had received a bill. It started to dawn on me that I hadn't received any mail whatsoever for a while.
I went to the main Canada Post office in Oakville, where I was informed that the house was unoccupied and all mail was being returned to sender!!!
Nightmare. My credit card had been cancelled. It took weeks to get another one. My Barclays cash card was about to expire. The replacement had been returned. That also took ages to sort out. I spent Christmas with no money.
It was almost a year before everything finally got sorted.
