Where's it from? I don't think I've seen it around here.

North east. It's quite a big cheese, somewhere between a brie and a camembert... it's the same kind of colour as the munster. It's a bit like eating cow dun, very yummy!! lol

Never tried it but us Brits are not known for our smelly cheeses so I still bet Maroilles is smellier!!!

If you liked the Munster do give Maroilles a try it's even better!!

Not tried Maroilles or Munster, but I do recall a very aromatic Livarot being forcibly consigned to the roofrack by my mother on one journey home from a Normandy holiday. That is one of those delicious soft cheeses that actually has a fairly mild and wonderfully creamy taste, but boy, it stank the car up on a warm day. Yummmmmy. That and Pont l'Eveque are two of my favourite smelly cheeses.

Yummmmmm.

I have to say that access to decent cheese at reasonable prices makes up for many of the disadvantages of Qc living :)

Mined ewe, Pont l'Evêque etc sounds rather good ...

Je ne regrette rien, but the Maroilles was probably a bit immature with some of the white chalkier looking inners still present. As of lunchtime it was less "farmyardy" than a Livarot or even a good Camembert.

I expect it'll be readier this evening or at lunchtime tomorrow.

I liked it very much though. Thanks for the tip.

You are welcome. Maybe you could save some for the meet up at the Scotland Yard, it would be perfect then... Your suitcase might be a little ripe of course too!

Also whilst you are still in la belle France, if you haven't tried this before you must... http://allrecipes.com/recipe/french-tartiflette/

Mm. Yeah I brought back cheese in my suitcase. Once. Only once. Of course this one time was the time my luggage got lost and by the time it got back it was sitting in a very hot van for hours. Not nice.

I doubt that this particular bit of Maroilles will last beyond tomorrow evening I'm afraid. ;)

Tartiflette is a long time favourite in the OH's panoply of delicious cooking.

We can. We get it from a local Italian cheese emporium. Reblonchon used to be made on the Italian side of the Alpes too and, although this is no longer the case, several Italian dishes still call for it.

You can substitute it with a Brie if needs be.
