If your idea of hanging with the wildlife is roasting your weiner in a circle round the fire, then you don't belong in the wilderness!

Ha ha! Neither did we but we got bitten by the camping bug too. Plan is to up-grade to a trailer tent when we can but for now it's canvas!

The kids love it, it's cheap - very cheap & everyone seems just be able to relax & get along. We don't book in advance though - don't trust the weather! So it's always a last minute get up & go for us. That kinda makes it fun too!!

Would love the idea of one of these http://www.tentipi.co.uk/ (bit pricey though), think it stems from my childhood, my friends all had Wendy Houses that six of us could happily sit crossed legged round our plastic dolls tea set but my parents being a bit different got me a wigwam that four of us could get in at a squeeze if we stood up!

Used to love camping as a kid & have many happy memories of camping holidays - even used to take the guinea pig. Mum thought our bright green tent looked more 'natural' & blended better than the red, blues & orange tents, with their gaudy curtains of the 70's.

I love camping, and we've done loads over the years but at my age () I want a decent bed. (And hot showers and a hair dryer wouldn't go amiss.) Sometimes this can be incorporated and sometimes it cannot!

A good bed is essential to my wellbeing and mood for the day

i love camping!! have always been a camping 'freak' and still prefer tents. Those tipis look great, don't they?
we have 3 tents between the two of us: a small festival tent, a medium tent and a HUGE monster of a tent that sleeps 9 people plus a car and measures almost 8 metres across. does this sound too big for canadian campsites? we're thinking of selling the big one. any thoughts?

anyway, i can't wait for our first camping trip in Canada (with the dogs )

We are taking our own tents though because there are six of us and the large Tipi's only comfortably sleep 4...

We did consider getting one of the tipi's though and an extra tent for 2 of the kids, then decided taht if we were taking 1 tent we might as well take 2 and everyone camp... the plan is Mr Chookie and I in one tent, the 4 kids squeezed in the second one

Looks like a nice campsite, i was in the area over newyears and I read alot of stuff in canmore about bears that didnt hibernate this year and where in that area looking for grub (campers) lol

I'm going camping on Friday for the weekend. Forgetmenot Pond in Kananaskis. They have walk-in tent sites that look great - I scoped them out today.

There are certainly loads of bears around and about at the moment .... I think it's kinda cool, but wouldn't really want to meet one on a trail. Don't mind spotting them from a car though

Spanky, what circumstances could possibly merit putting a car inside your tent...? Thought about it for a few minutes, and just can't figure it out.

Lucky us, we don't have to go camping to see bears, they come to visit!! We had a young one in our garage the other day, my daughter (the baby) was quite surprised, the other daughter was a bit scared, but the bear didn't really care about us. Now that blueberries are ready they will most likely stop coming though, why bother and get barked at...

Coincidence! I spent this afternoon up at Forgetmenot Pond (and Elbow Falls) - just a leisurely afternoon with the family and dogs.

We love camping too although I have to admit my days of tenting are over. I do like a comfy bed and a few home comforts to put me in a good mood! We treated ourselves to a trailer last year and I love it. Mind you, apart from sleeping and washing etc, we spend most of our time outside around the campfire. Usually go with friends too and just chill. Any other good suggestions of sites within the Calgary to Banff areas???

Theres loads of bears in and around the foothills coming down onto pasture land eating the carcasses of the dead cows.

Friends were fishing out there and the farmers told them that due to the weather this winter / lots of snow / flooding etc many died and it's bringing the bears down from the mountains in droves.

so as I mentioned it was my first time camping and we went with friends....So me and the girl we are with are cooking and Mr Miggins calls as he's away working, he gives me this list of things to have by bed "Babe, just make sure you have the bear horn, a lamp, a knife to cut yourself out of the tent in case it comes down and maybe the hatchet". Now I know he did 22 years in the army, but seriously that seemed way over prepared lol!

Just finishing packing the car before our trip to Nelson and Kikoumon tomorrow for a week. Bought a coleman stove this evening so I'll be trying eggs in a bag, and also gave in and bought a dog tie up stake so paddy the puppy didn't terrorise the local wildlife and lick it to death! This time tomorrow I'll be by the lake with a cold one!
