Cambie-Vancouver

We are thinking of renting an apartment in Cambie (near VGH) can anyone tell me what the area is like? Is it tree lined avenues with pavement cafes or burnt out cars and drug dealers?
All advice welcome.

It is a good area to live. Convenient for shopping and access to all the facilities Vancouver has to offer. Cambie "village" has a small community feel within the westside (the better side) of Vancouver - definitely more tree lined streets than burnt out cars and druggies ...
except ...
the new mass transit line from Richmond and the Airport to downtown is being built and it runs in a cut and cover tunnel right down Cambie street. There will be major construction and roadworks for at least another year.

My OH works at VGH; we've just rented a very nice basement suite bordering Douglas Park, which is just a few blocks West of Cambie and only six or seven blocks walk to VGH.
The area near VGH between Broadway and King Edward (9th and 25th) bordered by Cambie and Granville is pretty decent! (link to rough approximation of this here). Lots of nice tree lined streets and parks, no burnt out cars that I'm aware of!
Cheers, Iain

It's a middle-upper class neighbourhood. I wouldn't worry about it at all.
