They ski there
tremblant not too far away, couple hours - Mont Saint Marie not too bad either - on a smaller scale - Camp Fortune, Mont Cascade, Eidlesweiss, Vorlage, Calabogie and Pakenham on the door step. Then there's NY, Lake Placid about 3 hours and Vermont similar distance.

we live in calgary. I would never consider Ottawa because of the skiing! I have heard its nice city though.
Lots of interesting places to visit within a 7 hr drive of Calgary. we have been all over (OK so a lot of it to ski resorts..........), but still lots of good places. Not big cities though

I don't know about Ottawa but Calgary is an incredibly family friendly city. With small child you will find plenty of activities to keep busy and you will meet many people with young families. Schools are plentiful and you will have lots of choices when the time comes.

Who really cares what those that don`t live here and have probably spent little time here think. It is like saying that all those that reside in Vancouver are homeless, drug smoking, hippies. Based on cliche but why let facts get in the way.
I quite enjoy reading posts from those that say that all those living in Calgary are redneck, conservative, cowboys. It just demonstrates their ignorance.

I would just throw in that the most overtly racist comment I've ever heard in Canada was heard in Calgary.
"There's something funny about that guy........Jewish or something."
Comment made by an ethnic Asian.
