Hi Guys/Gals
I am in Calgary on a work training course this week and will have two evenings free.
I am keen to get out and about and see the main sites in the town.
Please can the yocals of the area let me know what the best bars/restaurants and landmarks to see in the city are.
Kind regards
James

Depends on your tastes and wallet?
Are you an oil baron? Then you had better hoik your ass to the Petroleum Club, or some of the down town pubs and restaurants.
Cowboy? Then the Ranchmans (off McLeod Trail).
Sporty guy - go to Shanks or equivalent.

Have you ever been to the Petroleum Club? For anyone who hasn't been, it's a vast Claridges-style panelled dining room and club rooms, and it's actually full of lawyers.

If I'm honest I am not particularly rich at the moment I have a $30 dinner expense limit from work.
I guess I am after some of the more original pubs and bars if any.
Also are there any buildings or other things of note worth visiting.
I don't do strip bars or casino's anymore.

OK, so not the most happening part of town...!
Jump in a taxi and head up to Kensington, probably a $30 cab ride. There are a few pubs and restaurants there, and then it's only a short-ish walk back over the river to downtown.

If you want some good beer, consider Bottlescrew Bills on the corner of 1st St and 10th Ave SW. Pricey in some ways but we have had some good nights out there.
Best bet if you want to keep costs down is to eat elsewhere (their food is the usual burgers, wings, fries type stuff that most bars have, so nothing to write home about) and then go there for the beer.

I'd second Ranchmans for the sort of thing I presume you don't get out east!!!!
Good atmosphere there and a fun night out

Grab a Cab and tell him to take you to Melrose on 17ave S.W. $15-20 from the Blackfoot Inn. Once on 17th ave go into Melrose...its not bad. But if you find its not your kinda castle, walk along 17th and find another...there are loads to choice from! But for a real treat...walk along 17ave to 4th street intersection and peek down to street (opposite way from the 7-11 store). There sits the Rose and Crown Pub in an old funeral home. A real british pub with great food. Cheers ...Chris

if its something albertan you're looking for, its got to be ranchmans!
if you're totally out of options just get a cab over to 17th ave, or kensington. you will find plenty of decent places around those areas

I am in Saskatoon Airport (free wifi) and should be in Calgary in a couple of hours or so. I am very excited.
