Default Calgary 1977 - pic

I'm doing a book cull and found an old picture book of Canada. Here's a picture of Calgary from the 'Husky Tower', as it was called then, looking west. The book was published in 1977.

And a more recent photo of the same view.

Notice any changes?

Hasn't really changed much has it?

Here's one of what someone thinks the downtown skyline will look like in the future.

The tallest building on the right is currently under construction and is called "The Bow" at least I'm pretty sure that's the one.

Cheers

If there were not any skyscrapers there, I could tell you if it had changed

I lived in Calgary in the early 80s and it looked sort of like the first picture. When I went to Calgary in 2006 after years of not seeing it, 'wow, the trees grew!' was a recurring thought... still is.... maybe I think about trees too much.

When I first moved to Calgary in 1974 that was the one thing that stood out, the lack of trees.

Quite amazing how that one aspect has changed.

Cheers

I'm pretty sure too. The architiects are the same who did the Crystal Phallus in London. No comments about uterus envy coming from me.

Hey that second shot looks familiar.

I was just going through my old back-up CD's and found this one taken 19th January 2003.

Speaking of old and new photo's how about this one.

The colour picture is mine taken in 2003 I think and the old black and white is one I found on the net taken shortly after the bridge opened in 1916.

No glass floor back then, that's pretty recent 2006 or 2007.

I am so glad I didn't know that then... I figured it was well tested by years of use!

Just looked for a date and according to wikipedia June 25th 2005 was when the glass floor opened to the public.
