The C word in Whistler?
Just asking - is there, by any chance, an expats group that goes skiing at Christmas. If so, where - I'm hoping Whistler...(since I'm going to Vancouver?)
Anybody? |

Re: The C word in Whistler?
Well, it's a moderate la-nina year or something which means it will be colder and we should get some more snow. They said that last year though, and I don't think it was that good a year.
I'm a fair weather boarder now-a-days. If it's not sunny or the pistes are in crap condition (nicely groomed or powder please) I'm not interested. |

I like cypress, but it's limited. After a couple of hours I find it a bit boring.
I have my board and medical card all ready to go  5 minutes into last season i broke a rib at the top of Cypress. 5 weeks later, on my 2nd run of the season, i ripped my groin muscle when my old binding broke mid slope. I really hope this season is physically better :fingerscrossed: |

Good luck:fingerscrossed:... or is that "break a leg"? |
Re: The C word in Whistler?
I can rent you a 3 bed property in Sun Peaks, but you probably won't like the price either.

We go for convenience more than anything else. I like to pop up for a couple of hours in the afternoon or when my friends finish work.

I think I'll give snowboarding a go this year.

Bindings going gives me the fear - I can imagine knees being shredded. I don't tend to go at top speed any more (not that I was ever that fast to begin with) cos my recovery from falling over is not what it once was. I certainly don't go near any terrain parks.

Have you ever tried them? That was the only reason I decided to give snowboarding a go but, before I became good enough to be able to, I fell over on the way to work and smashed my back to bits. I didn't recover before the end of the season last year. I can't wait to give it a go this year:D
In my wakeboarding days I could do a number of tricks, but that was on water which didn't hurt (too much) when you fell off. Good luck though. I think the trick is to keep a flat board on launch and landing - but the jumps are slippery and hard (oo-er missus) so it can be difficult (well for me anyway - other people don't seem to have much of a problem) |

Falling on a board hurts way more than falling on skis. I don't believe I have ever managed to fall without hurting myself on a board. |

Helmet, knee-pads, and arse protection are sensible options for those of us who aren't very good... er, I mean, push our abilities to max!
Takes me ages to get ready though, and it's exhausting. Knee supports, wrist supports, back protector, helmet, cod liver oil tablet, and i tend to take a pain killer just before the first run. |

Back protector for sure. Gives more confidence to chuck yourself down the mountain.

Hubby broke collarbone last season! So I have a barely used pair or Black Burtons uk size 10. For sale- pm me if intersted! Teen boy had inherited the park board!
I ski - I tried boarding but found the falls too painful and couldn't do black runs! Pss written at yvr on way to la after large wines! |
Re: The C word in Whistler?
Been out in Vancouver the past couple of days visiting Simon Fraser and mightily impressed with how little time it took me to drive from W 8th Ave to Burnaby. Christ, you can be on the slopes in no time! I'm coming again in Jan and bringing my boots (I ski; boarding = all gear, no idea ...)!
