Bulk Buying (Bulk Barn)
#1
No, not another Costco thread
You'd think that bulk buying would always be cheaper but it doesn't seem to be the case at Bulk Barn.
It's nice to be able to get the odd British treat from them, albeit such things are generally available in Sobeys and Walmart but their prices (Bulk Barn's) don't seem particularly good and it's not limited to 'bulk' style purchases.
Haywards pickled onions for example were $7.99 there today and $5.77 in Walmart.
I bought a bag of assorted nuts - shell on - and my receipt shows it was $15. But I've seen the bags in Superstore, and even Sobeys, that are much bigger for a similar price.
I bought a small bag of shelled Brazils - about the size of a fist - and they were $6
Loose/broken chocolate - even stuff like Mr Big - looked to be more expensive than a chocolate bar.
They had Quality Street. $2.27/100g.
The tins usually available are 725g so that would be $16.45 but the other stores sell them for $12 or less. And you get the tin!!
I suppose you can focus on the ones you like - if you remember which are which based on the wrappers - and discard the others, but even then...
I bought some golden raisins $1.98 for 200g. Aren't they something like $5 a kilo at Superstore?
Of course, it's my own fault, but you do get carried away by all that produce there and maybe you don't fully appreciate the cost until it's too late.
Probably best not to go again.

I bought $50 worth of Quality Street during a sale there last week. That's a fine example of false efficiency, the price per sweet was low but we've scoffed the lot.

I'm too grossed out by the thought of the hoi polloi delving around in those food bins to buy anything from Bulk Barn
