Booze sodden Britain a myth?

Well according to these results it is. Depressing as it seems, the image that has been propagated by the tabloids and breakfast tv that Britain is a 24 hour binge drinking hell hole is sadly not the reality. It seems that alcohol consumption has decreased substantially in the last decade. What are we to do now if self-satisfying scorn is no longer valid? Maybe we have to be contented with individual anecdotal evidence that there are still gangs of rampaging drunk teenagers hanging out round back of the shops? I don't care what the evidence shows, I still think the UK has gone to the dogs, but alas it appears a little more steadily.

You could console yourself with the thought that older people are drinking much less and teenagers are still drinking the same amount, if not more.
Hope this helps.

I wonder how much of that is due to more people avoiding pubs and making their own beer? I know several people on the Internet who claim to have done that due to the smoking ban and the ever-increasing cost of a pint.

Fret not... I'll be going to the UK rather a lot this coming year, so that will bump the tally back up a fair bit.

Apparently the alcohol consumption of men between the 16-24 has been falling since 2000. Where have all the lager louts gone?
