Default A bit of advice

OK Hypothetical property has a well:

Flow rate 5gpm
depth 75 feet
No holding tank.

Do we

a) get a new well drilled
b) fit a holding tank
c) say woohoo good job, that'll do us for the next few years?

How old is the well, is the casing still good?
What's the iron content?
It's pretty shallow, can it sustain your needs in summer? If not a holding tank my do.
Is the pump & filtration still good?

A new well would be in the region of $100 a foot (out here anyway) with an 8" casing. We have to go around 200' to get good water.

C

5 gpm is fine. We (2+2) get by on half that in a similar depth.

You wont be watering the lawn with it though

If it turns out you need more then B is always an option after the fact, asssuming you have the space for one anyway (either in the yard or in the basement)

I see no point spending on something you really havent demonstrated you need though.

1) Estimate on new well?

2) How big is the holding tank and does home have a place to put it?

I lean towards number two if the home has a basement and sufficient space for a tank.

6 years, yes.
VERY Low
Yes I agree its shallow and we havent done a summer (its a property I'm looking at)
Pump and Filtration unit are both less than 3 years old (current owner fitted them).

Thanks so far Avi

It has a decent sized (W/O) basement that I had plans for, BUT there could still be room for a decent size holding tank.

Hypothetically you should budget for a hypothetical UV, filter and softener (if necessary) installation too, plus $30 a month budgeted for replacement filters lights and softener salt.

The trickle tank can also be buried in the yard. It doesnt have to be inside. At 5 gpm you really wont need one though.

its 12km to delia (population 209), 16(or so)km to Morrin (similar population) and fork knows to Drum. Nearest neighbours 2 km in every direction. I think for now the answer is probably no.

A simple no would have sufficed.

So not in town then?

I guess you'd have to know the average depth of frost in the general area in order to know how deep it would need to buried.
