Funny you should say that because whenever I see video of British High Streets, British sports stadiums and British seaside towns the mode of male clothing is almost identical as that in USA/Canada, Polo/short sleeve button shirts, baseball caps and blue jeans,jogging/running shoes and, of course, the absolute essential in UK, a rain jacket or coat. There is also very often, with the younger set, a courier bag slung over the neck.

He does have a point. The only people I recall getting dressed up to watch football are the club directors and the wannabee hard boys.

Deck shoes only for on the deck of a boat? Definitely. Deck shoes when not on a boat is like draping a nice lemon sweater over one's shoulder. At least out of sight of land, nobody sensible can see them.
Ski jackets not for any other use? Definitely. Ski jackets are for ski slopes only. End of.
Business suit only for when on business? Definitely. What kind of tosser wears a business suit for leisure?
Golf shirts only for playing golf? I don't know what a golf shirt is.

Ahem, call me a tosser, but I only have one suit that I use for all suit wearing occasions business or otherwise (weddings etc, etc). I got it in 1996 and have no intention of buying another one in my lifetime (so I'd better not get too porky in my middle age).

A business suit in a non business location is terrible. A Kays catalogue special suit in a business situation is worse. A suit is not just a suit, you're right, you are a tosser

And onlY one pair of jeans, by the sound of it. I imagine your wife has no shortage of closet space for herself.

I haven't had much cause recently to wear suits but I sometimes miss puting on a nice, good quality suit in the morning with a nice, freshly laundered shirt, tie and well polished shoes. Arriving at the office feeling dressed to take on the world is the way to start of a busy, profitable day.

Chav.
Rentals can be spotted a mile off because of the temporary alterations. I bought mine. It was cheaper than renting for two weeks.
It has long been consigned to the bin. The Black Tie is merrily rotting in the closet, along with about ten suits, many shirts and heaven knows how many ties.
I get booted & suited so rarely these days I have to think hard about how to knot a tie.

I don't own a suit at the moment, and hopefully it'll be a long time before I need to get another one.
Actually, thinking on it, I don't even have anything that could reasonably be called 'smart business casual' clothes either.
