I've been past the Watford Gap; one Christmas we went to see Lindisfarne at the town hall or city hall or whatever it is in Newcastle. The why of it escapes me now.

I suppose once in twenty-five years or so is about the same as my trips past Bloor when I lived in Toronto but that's different, one doesn't visit the north of England because it seems a bit scary; bleak, cold and full of unintelligible people with them whippet dogs. There's no such objection to going to the northern suburbs of Toronto, just no reason to do so.

I too, who attended Saint Alberts Convent for Girl's in Hinkley and The Fosse Road School for Girls in Leicester, remember that all too well!

That would've been City Hall. The why may have been because, at the time, Alan Hull wouldn't be seen dead south of Durham.

I shall refrain from using insider knowledge to ask how you get on with whippets these days.

I have a flat cap, a pair of clogs and some braces if you are interested so you can look Northern as you walk your whippets
I will leave the brand of cigarettes and beer up to you to complete the look.

Clogs! I haven't worn clogs for years. Now there's an affectedly boho look, if I had them I could go to Glasto.

So the French can strike one day every two weeks without inconveniencing the rest of us!
