The best dinner party ...
#1
Following on from HWP's "Fiction to Reality" thread, it has made me recall a game I 'played' a while ago with some friends whilst out for dinner.
If you could choose 8 guests to come to your's for dinner, who would you choose? They can be anyone you like, alive or dead, folklore, imagined, fictional, whatever ....
I'm fairly boring - and probably predictable. But you can't have too many ego's around one table, so I would go for ....
1 - my husband
2 - Billy Connolly
3 - Eddie Izzard - and that's the two ego's taken care of ...
4 - Victoria Wood
5 - Joe Strummer
6 - Princess Anne - 'cos I think she's a good ol' girl under all that
7 - Philip Schofield
8 - Fern Brittan
('cos I think in real life, these last two really are a 'nice' and giggly as they appear on screen - and they'll have some stories ... )
and if there was room to sneak one more in, it would have to be the 'native' guy from Last of the Mohicans, old Daniel's brother - sheer eye candy ....
OK - so I didn't say that the conversation would have to flow really well

And in fact, it's probably a really, really good idea to invite a chef anyway

thats 6, Casey Clark from CMT top twenty cos he makes me laugh and Frank Sinatra cos my father would loved to have met him
Should be a good night

Hmmm.... this is always a tough one! There are so many interesting people who have done interesting things but I wonder, 'I bet they're really boring in person though'.
I'm not sure that this would work as a party but it's a list of people who I find interesting at this moment:
Dian Fossey because 'I wanted to be a primatologist when I grow up' and that got me into university.
Mary (Jesus' mum) for her perspective on things.
Jo Brand cos she's hilarious and kind-hearted.
Sister Wendy Beckett - I find her life and perspective interesting.
Sojourner Truth cos she kicked-ass and I'd love to talk with her.
Mrs Doyle

Stephen Fry cos I think he'd be a good conversationalist without needing to be the conversation.
And a young Marlon Brando for dessert.

My list might be
My lovely husband
My best friend, who has MS and so cant write, and as I cant hear her on the phone we dont manage to keep in touch very much. I miss her.
Her husband, cos he's bonkers.
Patrick Stewart, love the voice and the bald head
Stephen Fry, love the brain and the humour
Another old friend who I havent seen for years, he lives in Beirut
HWP- no need to explain!
Bobby Flay- he can do the cooking and he seems like fun.

Very hard to pare down to 8 but here goes!
1- OH (a great cook)
2- Lorraine Kelly (the "you're talking complete b0ll0cks" look on her face during a demonstration of past life regression 'This Morning' was priceless, and I bet she has loads of great gossip)
3- Albert Schweitzer (just been fascinated by his story since I was a kid)
4- Stephen Fry (for interesting facts and conversation)
5- Michael Faraday (what a mind)
6- Captian Janeway (kicks ass) or Captian Picard (also kick ass. but always in a very dignified manner)
7- my maternal grandfather (great sense of humour and I miss him and wish he'd met #1)
8- my maternal grandmother (wonderful joie de vivre and she misses #7 too)

Thanks for the suggestion, she is trying it but it takes ages to write a few lines and of course is dependent on someone setting up the PC and putting her headset on for her. Its bloody sad.
