Default Bears, Wolves & Other Fun Stuff?

Did you see any bears, wolves and other fun stuff since you moved to Canada? We are keen to visit the national & provincial parks when we move - Yellowstone in the US is high on our list. And we're hoping to see wildlife - hopefully from a distance.

But the parks in Canada don't seem as well publicised as the US ones. Are they as good? Which ones are your favourites?

Hi we went to Waterton Lakes National Park, which is just over the border from Yellowstone, scenery is amazing, we saw 2 bears whilst there but we were just lucky I think. You know when theres one about because everyone pulls their cars over and start photographing!!
Good luck on your travels

Whats more is Yellowstone is (predominantely) in Wyoming which doesnt a have border with ANY Canadian Province.

Having said that I did see a Bear just outside the park when I was there in August.

In the summer with the windows open its like living in a blooming safari park, the noises!

On my travels in Canada I have seen bears in passing in Jasper / Banff and also Vancouver Island. Bue Heron, Eagles. Whales (grey & orca) porpoise, off Vancouver Island.

I stayed with friends in Rossland in BC Interior & I think bears are not uncommon there (I didn't glimpse any), but they all have stories of bears in their yards - all garbage stored inside.

I have seen Grizzly, but we went to find them in Knight inlet so that doesn't count really.

Deer, osprey aplenty in the Okanagan. Bears too, but not that I have seen - although have seen the scat.

I would also second Waterton, we saw bears, elk and deer there (although we do have them in the surrounding areas we live too!)

Definately if you go to Waterton look for all the other cars pulled over - thats a sure sign of a griz! Waterton village too I was amazed at the amount of deer that just roam around the town (which was packed out with tourists!)

Not yet seen a wolf but also saw a bald eagle or 3 when at Police Outpost (right on the border with Montana and about 30 mins from Waterton)

We have seen deer, a moose, coyote and that's about all...hopefully get to see some wildlife when we get out to the mountains next month though.

We've seen cougar tracks, twice. Once there were cubs as well. Just glad we didn't meet mummy cougar!

Have only seen the one bear - about 20ft below me when doing ziplining at Whistler. Had raccoons in the garden, seen deer wondering down the street in broad daylight, and lots of birds of prey.

Ermmm - all of the above!

Seriously...we may have had to travel to the coast to see the whales, but on our own property we often see coyotes and wolves (due to the ridiculous amount of deer I suppose!) and on the drive between our place and the nearest city (~3hrs each way) we regularly see double figures of bears, and the odd moose...although I suppose all moose are a bit odd!

Since moving here we've also seen several cougars quite close up (could *really* have done without that!) and there are neighbours here who have lived here all their lives and never seen a single one.

We also see lynx pretty regularly...
