The City of Burnaby is opposed. Can they build a pipeline if the city refuses building permits?

The Province has the power to dissolve a municipal government so I guess that is a pretty big stick if a City tries to be awkward.

For me the right party got in and can actually get more done with a majority - would be even better if they got rid of Christy and picked a new leader that actually won their riding though.

As for the Greens, I had to laugh at their radio ads "we know we can't win and the NDP is going to win the election so vote for us to be the opposition" - would you vote for a party that concedes that they can't win? Hilarious.

dissolving a democratically elected municipal government? political suicide surely. Especially since the city is full of swing seats.

Well yes, but municipalities only have power at the whim of the provincial government and cannot block the provincial government's will.

I think that Kinder Morgan is more or less a done deal, whereas the gateway project is far from certain.

Edit: And that's exactly what JonboyE said... doh!

Never crossed my mind, that was always about putting pressure on the Americans to approve Keystone XL. Looking at the coverage I think BC news media seem to think that Albertans think that it was a referendum on the pipeline.

Sure, it isn't even close to the craziest thing I'd do either. If I don't like a party I'm not going to vote for them just because I know they're going to come to power. Were I voting in BC and opposed to the Libs or Clarke, (my friend calls her Crusty Clarke), I might consider burning my ballot on the Greens until the NDP finds some leadership.

Not exactly news.

LNG is not Oil.

I don't have an issue with LNG, I do with bitumen. It's bitumen those pipes will carry from the Tar Sands, not oil.

What, pray tell, is the problem with bitumen?

When bitumen leaks it pollutes the soil, rivers and sea.

Thanks, but ExKiwi was contrasting bitumen with oil so I was wondering why the distinction ?

Having said that, if we want to use oil products we have to accept there is a risk in transporting them and focus on minimising that risk (not rejecting it).
