Heard on the radio this morning that CBC archives have tweeted out a recording of a news item aired in 1957.

The weather was super hot, heat had arrived unusually early (sound familiar??) ....... and car drivers were asked to be sure to use the ash trays in their cars

Did they happen to mention what the temps were in 1957 early heat wave?

No they didn't, just said scorching hot, and much earlier than usual!

Thanks, I was just curious as scorching back then might not have been as bad as now. But it's all relative to what your body has adapted to.

"A Surrey-based sawmill company is donating enough lumber to rebuild 50 homes and buildings – roughly a half-million board feet – to Lytton and the Niaka’pamum Nation Tribal Council in an effort to help them recover from the fire that recently burned the B.C. village to the ground."

Help is now arriving, and I'm sure it's very much appreciated.

Fires everywhere. Oregon, California, BC, not sure about Washington.

Firefighting resources are certainly stretched thin, California is trying to send some up to Oregon to help, but California isn't in the best shape at the moment. Fires are outpacing available resources. There is also a shortage of jet fuel which may lead to aircraft being grounded.

Used to be wildland fire fighters in the Western US would get winter off as there would be no fires from late fall to early spring, but these days its turned into a year round, non-stop job which is taking a toll.

16,000 firefighters fighting 70 some odd fires in the western US at the moment, and it's not even peak fire season yet for California, that comes in August-October.

It isn't the peak season in BC either, it's about a month early.

I'm wondering if fire fighters will arrive from Australia any time soon ....... they have been up here in the past just as BC fire fighters went down there. Winter is almost over in Oz, and I believe it is pretty wet in WA, QLD and parts of NSW.

I know its being talked about, although its not that far off bushfire season for Qld (we are earlier than some states). There are issues to be overcome though, mostly related to COVID and quarantine.

Keep in mind its over a fair amount of land across several states, the largest fire as of Friday was 377 square miles in size and growing.

For comparison, City Of Vancouver is 44sq miles in size.

This fire on Osoyoos Band land was on the national news this morning but has been updated. The Inkaneep Fire started late yesterday and doubled in size overnight, but the Mayor of Oliver says it looks like they have a handle on it now.
