All provinces have these and when these payments are high enough it doesnt make sense to them to go out and find a job be it minimum wage or even $14 an hour as they feel they have more money collecting benefits as opposed to working.

To those who deserve it YES to those who prefer to sit around all day drinking and cant be arsed to go out and find a job then it becomes a different matter.

I find it hard to believe that anyone of sound mind and body would choose to live on welfare.

I had a bit of a google but couldn't find much about it. Does the province offer their own bonds? I have various US state bonds and although they're at a lower rate the interest is tax free.

I don't think there are BC bonds. By borrowing from our decendents I meant financing current account expenditure by running a deficit.

But in the process damage business as they did last time they were in. If business moves out of BC or does not flourish fewer jobs. Fewer jobs equals a lower tax base, which means less money for social programs or higher taxes for everyone else.
Then there was the $400m the last NDP govt. spent on ferries that did not work (which they were told before they had them built). That's $400m that could have gone to social programs!
Now we'd all be better off if we'd kept HST, but a minority of voters opted to get rid of it and we're all paying higher taxes. Effective rate of 14% on most things we buy than than food. We could have had 10% HST.

The liberals have been in power the entire I have been in BC, and I can't say its been a pleasant experience, not like there are all that many jobs at the moment, only place one can work these days in the west is Alberta, and if I had the means that is where I would be going.

Even disability is piss poor level of 906 a month, is this how we should treat the disabled in this province?
Yes those who can work should have limits, and lower rates, but for those who cant work due to medical issues, they deserve a payment that can at-least keep them from living on the streets or destitute.

Not only that, but you are also allowed to work while on welfare up to a certain amount, so the system here hardly encourages people to live on welfare.

Many people on welfare are on it because they can't work or unable to find a job that will accommodate their medical needs.

A civilised wealthy society should not tolerate destitution.
