Default BBQ ideas...

OK, so now that we seem to be in BBQ season (and yes I know this is a 12 month affair for some people), was wondering what your favorite recipes/dishes/meals etc are.

We've got the inlaws coming over at the end of July (all 6 of them)- I plan to use the BBQ most days but I dont wanna be serving burgers all the time.
Basically, I'm looking for some inspiration...

I'm currently experimenting with bok choi, which BBQ's pretty well...

Nice piece of salmon, brushed with maple and cooked on a soaked cedar plank?

Buy back pork ribs -

Mix together:

2 tblsp dark brown sugar
2 tsp smoked groung paprika
1 tsp chilli powder
1 tsp salt
1 tsp pepper

Rub this well in all over the ribs. Put them in a big enough slow cooker - lid on and leave for 4-5 hours.

Paint them with Bullseye BBQ sauce (it's been voted the best) and throw on the grill for 10 minutes.

SO tender!

I am cooking this as we speak

Cop up in squares (ish) the following

Potato
red onion
tomato
courgettes
red and yellow pepper
mushrooms
prawns

throw em in a bbq tin thingy cover with butter and a dash of olive oil, seasoning salt, wrap in aluminium foil and stick em on for a half hour!

Pork chops and caesar salad being done with this tonight too - smells yum

Chop bits of meat up and add garlic, lemon, herbs, mustard etc, wrap in foil. Open the foil up towards the end of cooking to brown the meat. Works well for chicken and pork tenderloin.

A whole fish, wrapped in foil and with lots of herbs, bit of butter & white wine.

Throw it on and it's yummy. We had it last night thanks to this bizarre English weather, we've had about 10 BBQ's already this year! With Pimms......mmmmmmmmmmm!

Leg of lamb is also good if you've got the time.

L of L difficult to get in Canada, certainly round here. I have spoken to many Canadians who have never eaten lamb.

i'll second that, and the people I hang out with will eat anything as long as it has a heart!!

Mention the word lamb and they either turn their nose up or as Tangram said, have never tried it.

If you don't mind the NZ frozen product then it is readily available at Sobys and Super Store. I also buy fresh NS lamb there too when it's available. The President's Choice frozen rack is good as is the NZ one. Wash it down with a nice glass or two of Merlot. Very nice.

Spit roast a whole pig. If you don't think you can tackle it yourself there are companies that'll do it for you and deliver the cooked pig.
Makes a bold statement.

Try sweet potato 'crisps'. Chop up sweet potato into fingers - about half to three quarters of an inch square and two to three inches long. Drizzle over olive oil. Put in microwave for four mins to soften.
Then put on barbecue rack turning occasionally as they brown.

Delicious!

Sadly I can't claim credit for the simple recipe, it was given to me by a Geordie ex paratrooper now living in Revelstoke! Cheers Gary!
