Default Baggage Allowance - Query

Hi there....

I'm flying Continental to Houston and then on to Vancouver..

I'm allowed 2x bags in the hold of 23kgs, plus a take on bag of 18kgs, and my purse...

Is this good / bad or average??? I've never taken 2 suitcases, and as I don't have scales wondered if the 23kgs is the weight of a normal case with the normal load of clothes etc...?

I'll take the ol' laptop in my carry on bag, and I'm not taking books etc, but it is goign to be mostly shoes and clothes and papers I need.....

I'll buy scales I guess but a general guide / opinion is helpful for me - ta!!!

That's not too bad a luggage capacity.
20 kilos is around the weight of a regular suitcase, pretty much crammed to full volume with clothes.
You may find it difficult to fill 2 suitcases each with 23 kilos of clothes.
18 kilos is a very large carry on bag. One of our suitcases only weighed 18 kilos when full.
Most airlines allow 20kilos, with 30 kilos for Premium class passengers.

Good luck putting the 18 kilo carry on bag in the over head locker. You may need some assistance.

Do be aware of one thing. While the Airline may allow you 18kgs of hand luggage, the Airport may not allow it. Make sure you check or you could end up in some bother. It's like Air Canada allows two pieces of hand luggage, but flying out of Gatwick before last week they would only allow one piece of hand luggage.

I just scraped in under my 32Kg limit last time I came back from days in the US, of course I was smuggling a load of shower fittings back so that may have had something to do with it

Since you're a lady, you're probably already used to carrying 18kgs of hand luggage around with you.

Don't forget to check the size dimensions of hand luggage you can take on as we got stung when the holdal did not fit into the sizing example at check in therefore had to pay for extra hold baggage, just a thought for you........

Hand luggage dimensions vary between airlines and airports so double check that one.

An 18kg bag shouldn't be in the overhead, it should be under the seat in front.

(Never stopped me though, especially on Easyjet when they wiped weight limits for carry-on bags!)

Very good baggage allowance these days. 18kg for carry on is a hell of a lot though. As someone else said check that the UK airport will allow you through with that and with 2 carry ons, they were rather strict about just having one piece of hand luggage at 5kg when i flew with BA last October.

Are you Continetal all the way through to Vanc? Check the Domestic baggage allowance is the same as international as they can differ or there may be a charge involved especially if travelling at peak times.

Good luck with it all x

Make sure you have a coat with plenty of pockets and stuff them full We also manage to conveniently leave a piece of hand carry on under a coat on the trolly when we are at the bag checking in....or it is stuffed into the girls bags...
