@Miss Clinique - glad you survived it (three sheets to the wind or not).

Canadian storms do seem much harsher than anything I lived through in the UK and though I'm one of those who gets thrilled by thunder and lightning usually, I have been scared thingy-less by a couple of humdingers here out West.

I have never seen anything like the storms we have had here over this summer.

The wine helped!!

The storm last night in Bolton was amazing, the sky turned some really weird colours.....The tornado in Vaughn was about 15km away which is a bit close for comfort.

Under severe thunderstorm risk today as well.............

Well, I've been here 12? years now. That was my first actual Tornado Warning that we should seek cover immediately.

I was at a friends and got the call to come home about 9pm. I have NEVER seen lightning like that, you could literally read by it, it was that constant. Not just a bolt here or there, there were times when you could count to three while the same bolt kept discharging!

Then the rain, in the time it took me to drive across a 4 way junction it went from no rain to absolute zero "where did the road go" visability.

We woke the kids up and made them go sleep in the basement in case things got worse in the middle of the night. Scary stuff. Its bad enough knowing a tornado might come by, cant imagine what its like knowing a hurricane WILL come by! Thankfully no serious damage around here, although some people are without power. Cant say the same for parts of vaughan, or Dundas, where a kid was killed. That storm was no laughing matter, I've seen storms before, but none quite like that. Video footage of a tornado heading towards the Vaughan mall is something else...almost like dbds dreams coming true...

It was a scary evening being fairly new to Canada I was not sure how worried to be, I was at work all evening and watched the amazing show from my cash.

I did start to get worried when it was clear how worried the Canadian's were, a lot of people were saying how weird the sky was and that this was unusual!

You can say that again.

Ok...your dreams are probably more X rated and revolve more around bacon and such things, but I got the impression you were not a big fan of vaughan and its similar looking siblings.

Was it wild in your bit of paradise too?

One minute we were cooking supper (okat the OH was cooking supper, I was on BE:eek:) the wind started howling, the sky turned black then you could see it coming..............pretty scary. Switched off everything to head to the basement, but had to watch as the sky was electric, the wind was incredible. Our street was like a river, debris flying everwhere.......................

For the record, standing by a large plate glass window, videoing the oncoming tornado is NOT a recommended survival strategy....
