The wedding I went to in Canada was also a lavish affair. I never went to a wedding in England where there was an open bar - always been cash. The Canadian one had open bar from start to finish and a gift for the guests. I have been to lots of house parties here where you bring food and drink, but as most of those have been get togethers for my sons' sports teams it seems reasonable enough that the poor beggers who offer up their homes don't have to pay for all the food and drink too. I have met a host of very generous and friendly people in our time in Canada. You will note that they rarely come round to visit without bringing food and drink with them.
