Areas of Calgary which contain most IT positions
#1
Hi guys,
Does Calgary have any areas which are particularly IT centric? Or are the positions spread out?
I'm asking as I'm trying to determine which areas are best for us to look for accomodation so that we're relatively close to work.
Many thanks

As far as I am aware there is no centre of IT in Calgary. I know very little of the IT business but, I know a fair number of people, very few of which work in IT. The IT guy that takes care of my office is a 1 man outfit, so were all of those that took care of the IT requirements of the law firms I previously worked for.
Is your expertise in hardware or software? What type of role will you be looking at? The answers to these may assist people with assisting you.

I've got a lot of experience in .NET software development. C#, ASP.NET, WinForms, Windows Mobile, SQL Server etc.
Cheers

OH, who works in IT, says either the NE or downtown....
Best bet would be to try to live somewhere with good transit links to the downtown core.

I'm not an expert but from the looks of things it seems industrial type jobs are in the NE and more clerical type jobs are downtown. That said there's plenty IT people in the NE too.
NW seems to be pretty empty of industrial areas with the exception of malls and I have no idea at all about SW.
Bear in mind though that Calgary is pretty small, it's only got 1 million people in it so be prepared to get the finger out and do your networking with EVERYONE you meet.
