Anyone move back to Uk from Calgary?

Hi,:sneaky:

My husband and I got an opportunity to move to Calgary. He got a job offer, I dont. We dont have children, just a dog. :(

I am more enthusiastic about moving than my husband, maybe because I dont feel like I fit in well with the lifestyle in the UK. I am originally from bangkok, my husband is from North Yorkshire. Because I am more excited about the move, I may just see the positives not the negatives. Can you please share you experience?

Thanks

Padthai

You might be better off posting this question in the moving back to the Uk section.

I'm moving back from Vancouver if that is any help?! I don't know anything about living in Calgary but if you are Asian you would certainly love it in Vancouver. The Asian population in Vancouver is one of the best bits about living here for me

Gee I'm 'white'................I guess I would have loved it in Nazi Germany, Apartheid South Africa, Zimbabwe when it was Rhodesia, Imperialist Russia, The Austro-Hungarian Empire?

What a bloody stupid, racially stereotyping statement to make.

Hi

Butch: your comment is funny, but I dont know if you are being serious or funny so I should to laugh instead then.

I've been to Vancouver last year. It was really nice and they are plenty of food of my choices. Lots of Padthai...hehe. I love it but I don't think OH could find a job there.

Fishfinger, how come you move back from Vancouver? It is such a lovely place tho. Are you considering moving to other part of Canada or you come back for good now?

Thanks

Padthai

Don't think I was being racist at all, just saying that she would feel at home there with lots of fellow Thai's. Lots of Asian people want to be among their own and there is nothing wrong with that. My son attends a school where 99% of the kids are Asian and I purposely chose the school because of that.

Padthai: I'm moving back to England. I've always wanted to experience living abroad and I'm pleased I've done it but England is home to me. Good luck with your move.

I would have liked to be in Imperialist Russia, around late 19th century, as a member of the royal family, say, the Csar's brother. Wow! The things I could have got up to...

Hi fishfinger,

PS, dont worry about the racially thingy, I am not offended at all. I've been to a few Thai restaurants there myself. Loved the food there. Poor OH tho he wanted to try something else hehe.

Thanks everyone for the reply. My OH supposed to get a job offered by they seemed to disappear  who knows maybe we stay here in the UK ;)

Bye for now, gotta go back to work :o

I'm Canadian and I lived in England for five years and I never really ever felt like I completely fit in either... but then, I didn't really tried to. ;) And, I'm not sure what you mean by 'the lifestyle' in the UK.

Are you looking for the negatives about living in Calgary? I could list what I see are the negatives but what I see are negatives, you might not.

Well down the road from me there is a predominately Korean, Chinese area where the local store has no written English sign on it and the majority of people who live in the area do not speak English as a first language, lots don't even speak English at all and probably never will. Sometimes, I feel like I live in a part of Asia and not what people traditionally picture Canada to be like.

By the way I love the area and as I said before my son goes to a school where he is in the minority and I did this on purpose because of the work ethic lots of asian people have. This has rubbed off on him and his grades have improved. When I go back to England I will miss this part of Vancouver the most.
