I'm in the west of Ottawa but my job occasionally takes me out to the Arnprior/Ottawa boundary.
Good to hear all's going well so far!
Trish
PS. Am not from Englandshire, but Norn Iron!

Thanks for reply love Jan x

I work in healthcare as program manager at one of the community health centres - the geographical area covered by my program takes me out your way. I'm live in the west of the city, off Woodroffe.
What about yourself? What took yuou to Arnprior? Have you managed to get a toe-hold into the Canadian workforce yet?

I ran my own photography business in the UK so am hoping to start that up again here. I also taught GCSE Photography and was also hoping to do something similar here too. I am also trying to write a book so I have a million and one things that I want to do!
We came here as my husband got offered an opportunity at Arnprior Aerospace, opportunities don't come along everyday and we thought that we would rather regret something we had done rather than something we hadn't so grabbed it!
We are enjoying it so far, its hard because we did have a great life in the UK, great family and friends so Canada had alot to live up to. We have 2 children who are 8 and 10 and they have embraced Canadian life and really love it here which I'm really pleased about.
What brought you to Canada? and how long have you been here?

You should get in touch with Wannabe as she's heavily into photography as well and lives in Ottawa.

Hi Janet - my wife and I moved here in 2000 and have lived in Kanata all of that time. I work in downtown Ottawa in IT. We have no kids, just a cat. He's Dutch, my wife's German, I'm a Brit from east Lincs.
How are you settling in so far?

Hi Janet,
My husband is an accountant, and just finished an audit of Arnprior Aerospace this week!! otherwise i would not have had a clue where you were! small world we live in!!
I am not exactly close, I am in Aylmer, on the Quebec side. We come over your way (ish) often though to watch the Sens during the hockey season! how are you liking Ottawa so far? Its so beautiful in the summer....crossing the bridge every morning with the sun shining over parliament hill on the way to work is great!

I came here on holiday back in 2002 for the first time and loved it and thought why not! Moved over in 2005 with useless now-ex-husband in tow, no kids, 2 cats. Moved to beautiful, but very rural NW Ontario for the first couple of years, then came to Ottawa at the end of 2007 to start a new job. Ottawa's OK, but I'm not a city girl, so I often pine for the boonies.

We are settling in really well, the children have embraced Canadian life and hubbie is enjoying his job. I like it here, just missing the social aspect that we left behind, have joined the local softball team so getting out and about.
My uncle lives in Kanata so travel to there quite often.
How do you find the winters? we haven't experienced one yet.

How weird, your right it is a small world! We haven't been over to the Quebec side yet but hoping to visit during the summer.
We have been into Ottawa and thought it was so lovely. We like living here in Arnprior, although missing our friends and family alot. We are very social people so miss that aspect as well, we have made some friends, its a great opportunity to meet new people though so we are looking forward to all the people we haven't met yet!
Are you from Canada originally? What job do you do?

Actually I quite like the winters. I'm a cold-weather person. Before we came here, I expected it to be cold during the winter but nobody mentioned that in the summer it would be so hot and humid. That's the weather I really hate. I don't tolerate heat too well, especially with humidity.
We like to walk a lot and as we don't own a car then we have little choice anyway, so it keeps us fit, though we use a treadmill in the winter. Hopefully we can buy a vehicle soon as I feel there is a lot we're missing out on by not having one.

I was out your way a few weeks ago, went to the flea market...went mostly for the motorbike ride than to actually look around. Used to live in Richmond, just down the road from Kanata. There's a few of us about.
all the best
