Honestly, that was me about a month ago :)

A big part of the reason I started it because of those new, separated bike lanes downtown. I love them.

Bored, I started counting bicyclists. 107 went by (well some may have repeated) 3 in spandex, 104 in normal clothes. 3 wore helmets; the spandex 3. I wondered if those garish outfits make bicycling dangerous.

I noticed a strong correlation between refusing to stop at Stop signs and spandex yesterday

That's unexpected. When I was riding to work I noticed lots of stop sign and traffic light jumpers but they most wore white dreadlocks.

I ride to work on a roadster with big tires and it'll glide over everything...:)

Nice one, Kate! I'm thinking of getting a bike to cycle to work (although it's only a very short journey for me) and on the seawall. Any recommendations on what bike to get? Not crazy $$$...

Thanks!

:)

Hi Adele :)

I also didn't want to spend a lot of money as I didn't know how often I'd be using the bike. What are you looking for in a bike? Do you go up many hills? I was looking for comfort, mainly...I wanted to be able to sit up straight, wear a skirt, commute to work (so some gears) and that was about it, really. I was looking for a more girly -looking bike too (I am shallow). Not interested in mountain biking or anything. I went to Bicycle Sports Pacific in Van which is right at Pacific Street and Burrard.

I ended up getting this ($439 before tax)

It was just fine on the commute from BBy to downtown van. It's not the fastest bike around but it didn't give me a sore bum, which was nice. I got fenders and a bike rack added to it as well.

She recommended another one too that was around $669: (I think it was this one) (I see this one around a lot):

Let us know how its going in January. Riding to work in the cold rain 2 out of every 3 days is dedicated, July is easy.

Yeah I'm not sure about winter.

I'd need to get a whole new wardrobe for starters. And probably get lights for my bike too.

There is something quite smug-inducing about cycling, it has to be said, not sure what it is though! And so pleasant on a sunny day.

Thanks Kate, I'll check out the links! I'm thinking a hybrid, I'll probably just use it on the seawall and round the city. Hopefully not too many hills but I'd like to be able to get up them if necessary! I've started checking out various bike shops/sites so will include BSP in my research.

Happy biking!

Adele :)
