OH is convenient online speak, I wouldn't say other half, and I cringe when I see someone write "hubby". It's vomit inducing wifeyspeak.

I've always found 'partner' to be overly PC and ambiguous. 'Wife", I use quite often just because it's easier (and, of course, will soon be correct). 'Spouse' is in the same category as 'partner', as is 'other half', in my opinion.

Marrying the 'bint' will have the added bonus of stopping her family from referring to me as her 'chum'. When we round to telling them, that is.

One phrase that really is starting to bug me is 'on a go forward basis'. I'm not sure whether it is a typical Canadian phrase but it is a favourite term of Danny Williams, the Premier of NL. Over the past few years it's become increasingly commonly used by members of the provincial government and seems to have gained a life of its own in popular useage.

On another note, (as opposed to a go forward basis), the 'what to refer to you signficant other' (initself a ghastly phrase) problem used to cause headaches. So I married her;). She now has the same problem with her father who is seperated from her mother and has a girlfriend, life partner, ****buddy, call her what you will. 'Girlfriend' seems trite for a woman in her late 50's and partner is somehow ambiguous. Such are the challenges of social ettiquette in the 21st Century. Not a particularly Canadian issue though.

I feel I must publicly and personally apologise to fledermaus if I have induced any vomit on any of the many occasions that I have used "hubby". :p

I like it :lol: Can't stand OH, and "hubby" is casual and not formal.

Anyway, this wifey hopes not to upset any other member's digestive system when I post again ... :rofl:

Although I don't use the phrase I can understand it's meaning.

Perhaps I am whole but being with my wife and knowing she is there makes me more than that. If that makes sense to anyone.

I do feel less than whole if we are separated for a period of time and to be totally honest I do not function well when she is not around, not that we need to be together 24 hours a day.

Too much information for some perhaps but there you go, from an old romantic who after almost 40 years of marriage is still very much in love with his OH.

Aaahh bless you Steve, thats a lovely thing to say after 40 years of marriage - you're an inspiration to us all:wub:

I also used to hate saying "boyfriend" - it made me feel about 15 (I wish!!) and "partner" made me feel like a lesbian (not that I have anything against lesbians I hasten to add!). It's nice that I can now say husband after our hush hush wedding during our reccie trip to NS:wub:
