Default America has a talent

And it's this 10 year old, little girl. But will she be the winner of AGT. I would put my (rental) house on it that she will be.

That's what UK viewers thought when there was a similar aged girl on Britain's Got Talent.

From what I remember she was beaten by some fat bloke and his son.

Time will tell I suppose.

I know it has been debated before and supposedly proven but I remain unconvinced that it is her singing.

I don't know how to describe it but her voice shouldn't be that resonant as her chest cavity simply isnt large enough.

I hope I am wrong

That is definately miming on that video.

The girl in the UK was 5 years old.....she was ok but sympathy carried her to the final.

I thought that when I saw the You tube video but then she was actually on the show singing - they surely could not have faked that to the live audience & judges??

The audio track is out of sync. The presenter at the start is out of sync too. It's not miming, it's just because whoever recorded that and put it on Youtube didn't do the best job.

Just after her performance one of the judges asked her to demonstrate her voice, which she did. It would have been nigh impossible to lipsync that.
It's her voice. She's an exception to the norm.

Yes but is there a difference in holding an opera voice for a few seconds and a whole song???

not really. And (sorry, Zoe) chest cavities have little to do with it - except that your lung capacity untimately dictates how long you can hold a phrase without breathing. The voice production is all in the head - the resonance is mostly in the sinuses (sini?). "Opera" voice is not forced by pushing more air over the vocal cords - all that would achieve is to sound shouty.

Much of the training is about thinking the voice into the right shape - a mental image I have found useful when warming up the voice is to start off by projecting your voice as a laser beam from the bridge of your nose, then sort of moving it back in your head until it's resonating around an airbag that inflates backwards from the middle of your head. That doesn't make much sense in words, but it works when singing - try it and see!

I'm very willing to be proved wrong ( and I hope I am wrong actually).
I also think I've expressed myself badly, probably because I'm not a professional singer. Maybe I don't mean the chest cavity but there is just something that says to me that small child cannot produce that much resonance.
But hey , I managed to nearly knacker my voice in tecahing because I don't have very good control over pitch/tone/volume, so what would I know?

My 10 yr old can produce the volume & resonance when she sings but I doubt she could produce it with the operatic quality of this little girl, even with training. Mind you she wouldn't be interested, she much prefers learning Taylor Swift in her lessons!! :-)

I was thinking that.

On another note we have X Factor just beginning what I hope will be its last year, after Leona Lewis they should have called it quits, its just full of idiots who scream and pretend they can sing now with the odd talented one

Good luck to the 10 yr old girl in AGT though, if its her she is truly amazing!!!
