So AC finally announce the name and route network of it's new low cost start up:
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/...-discount.html
Any thoughts on the proposed route network? Or name?
Must say I was hoping for more UK destinations to compete with Air Transat. Manchester or Birmingham perhaps.
Having only a French name seems a bit unfair too, and likely to attract some controversy,

Just looked on the AC website at the cabin spec for the 767's to be used on the European flights.
Interesting line for inflight entertainment:
Wireless streaming of movies and more, direct to your personal electronic device.
Final program details and pricing will be communicated prior to first flight in July 2013.
Not come across this before.

If it's the dreamliners I read some damning reports about the aircraft already!

They aren't using 787s. The 20 year old 767s will be cascaded down into the Rogue fleet (likely after a very small cabin refurbishment) as the 787s join the 'proper' AC fleet.

Is there a route map of where they plan to fly?
Hopefully they will tap into the demand for a Fort McMurray-Norwich direct route.

I priced the new Toronto-Edinburgh route (which requires a connection with any other airline you'd deal with) just to get an idea and I'm tickled that it took the creation of a "low cost" arm for Air Canada to compete with every other normal airline's fares.
But at least there's no connecting.
If I even the playing field and test out the route that is relevant to me, Montreal-Edinburgh (always requires a connection somewhere with any airline) going via this new low cost route from Toronto is still more expensive than going with some other airlines. In fact, I found cheaper Air Canada codeshare routes on Expedia and the brilliant part is that the AC website itself doesn't seem to give those as an option any more. Hopeless.
I find AC's pricing to be pretty wild if there's little or no competition on the route. One time I worked out it was about $200 cheaper to do Montreal-Vancouver-Seattle than it was to just fly Montreal-Vancouver on the same flight.
